Bespoke TV Units

in South East London

Fitted or built-in TV units, create a bespoke piece of furniture designed to seamlessly integrate into your living space. We often design them in a shaker or contemporary style, and they can be installed against a flat wall, or either side of a chimney breast. These units offer a perfect balance of functionality and aesthetics, maximizing storage space while enhancing the room's overall design.

In London, built-in TV units are popular as optimizing space is critical. They're becoming more common in South London and we are increasingly asked to provide bespoke TV units when completing kitchen or roof extensions to complement the new space.

We love designing and installing fitted TV units as they're stylish and perfectly suited for various room configurations, especially in older properties with chimney breasts.

If you're considering a built-in TV unit, get in touch, and we can share some examples of our work in South London and talk about your project.

Our Built-In TV Unit Carpentry Process:

An Example of Bespoke

Step 1: Agree on The Design, Materials and Quote

  • Initial Consultation: We’ll schedule a meeting to talk about your vision and ideas. And the inspiration for your built-in TV unit. If you have Instagram or Pinterest inspiration, this is a great time to share it.

  • Design Agreement: We’ll collaborate on the design, and help you choose between a classic shaker or a sleek contemporary style, that complements your space.

  • Material Selection: We’ll discuss the best materials and finishes that match your design preferences and space. We usually build TV units out of HDF (high-density MDF) as it’s more durable and waterproof than regular MDF, but we also work with solid wood and ply.

  • Sketch: We’ll sketch out the unit so you can see what they’ll look like.

  • Quote: Based on the size, materials, and layout/components of the bespoke TV unit, we’ll provide a quote and timeline.

Step 2: The Frame and Structure

  • Wall Skecth: We like to mark out the bespoke Built-In TV unit on the wall so that you can see exactly what it will look like shape and size-wise, and to help visualize it in the space before we build it so that you can make last-minute design tweaks.

  • Positioning the Frame: We’ll assemble the frame and move it into place. Securing it to the wall using extra-load bearing brackets or screws for stability.

  • Drawer Construction: We will build any drawers and shelves by creating sides, back, and front panels. We will then install drawer runners on the sides of the drawers and drawers.

  • Doors: We’ll assemble any doors by joining the stiles and rails, and then inserting the central panel. We will secure them with wood glue and clamps until dry.

Step 3: Installing Doors and Drawers and the Finishes

  • Door and Drawer Installation: We’ll then install the doors into the frame. And Insert the drawers into their respective rails.

  • Hardware Installation: We will attach your selected handles and hinges, and any other hardware to the doors and drawers and TV unit.

  • Staining and Sealing or Painting: We then usually paint your TV unit, but some clients prefer an oak or solid wood finish, where we stain or oil the finished product.

  • Extras: We often install extras like LED lights, and plug sockets. We always want to agree on these in advance so we can pre-install the cabling and socket extensions from existing electrical points.

Above, you can see an example of a bespoke TV unit we built in Stretham, South East London.

We crafted the unit in HDF (high-density MDF) for the main structure and plywood for the drawers—for added durability. It's designed in a contemporary style with four drawers to add storage and multiple shelves, as well as a large central section for mounting the TV.

This bespoke built TV unit was installed in the living room, and the client wanted LED lights installed along with four sets of plug sockets, and an RJ45 cable to directly connect the TV to the internet.

The TV unit was painted matt white and we added black hardware to match the rest of the living area. The overall finish is modern, minimalist and stylish, and in keeping with the character of the house. The materials chosen provide a premium finish and ensure significant durability over painted MDF (what a lot of builders would use). The clients were thrilled.

Adam - Landells Road, East Dulwich

“Hilaj Brothers did an incredible job of our mansard roof extension in East Dulwich.

Bler and his team completed the project in 12 weeks, even with a couple of unexpected problems with the old roof structure and changes. They were on site every morning on time, kept in budget, and were great communicators. A brilliant experience.”
